Genius Hour

5-12-14

My "genius hour" project is finally done and over with. I could sum up my thoughts right now with two words. Those two words are "thank" and "God." Unfortunately, I have to try to figure out how to make those two words take up three to seven paragraphs, because that is the amount of writing I've been assigned.

More specifically, I'm relieved to finally be done with large, unguided projects like this, at least until next year. My biggest problem with this kind of schoolwork is this: it's just a lame excuse for teachers to get out of teaching. We sit in our little groups or whatever and work on stuff, more-or-less unsupervised, while the teacher sits at his/her desk and does their grading and what not. The problem there is all that work is supposed to be done by the teachers outside of school. While class is in session, they should be teaching and helping the students, something that seems to be gradually taken over by technology.

I noticed that throughout my writing there were many references and innuendoes that many people might not get, either because they're from other countries, or simply because I'm a nerd and make jokes about things that no one has ever heard of. Both cases reflect poor writing on my part, but oh well.

I liked making those little sarcastic and comical comments to my writing. They give it more character and make it more interesting. The only thing I dislike more than reading is reading monotonous writing. I hate (just pause for a moment and allow the full weight and magnitude of that word set in; that's how much I mean it) when people write short, boring, overly-informational articles or papers, and there is not a single hint that that person even has a soul. They're just kind of a person who doesn't even need to be here. Their writing has no positive effect on anyone.

I have inserted a google map widget into my site. The map shows a general layout of Plymouth, my hometown. I have also looked to similar sites for inspiration and ideas. I found that most sites like mine are made my young adults, such as myself.

I'm over halfway done with the site now. I already have most of the things that I need, done. All that needs done now is the last few paragraphs of information and personal views.

Today I added some ranting and criticism to the website... It's a bit hateful and biased, but it gets the message across.

There are now a couple songs on my website that I feel reflect my attitude towards humanity. They are "War" by Edwin Starr, and "Love Train" by The O' Jays.

Really nothing further to put in my reflection. I'm doing the same thing every day for this project, so this "reflection time" part of the experience is really kind of lacking. It would be nice if, for once, we could do an activity or project without having to dissect and analyse every single aspect.

2-10-14

1 week further in and I'm not as far ahead as I should be, but I'm doing alright. I have made some valid, if offensive points. I don't want to spoil anything before I finish the site, so I will not be making any official comments about its contents at this time. I will say that I argue the relationship between religion and war, and the pros and cons of practicing religion.

2-3-14

My website construction is going well; I haven't published it yet, but it's coming along. The point of it is to help end war, or at least get people to be a little nicer to each other. I won't protest or start riots. I'm just going to use my words to show people that it's not necessary to kill someone because their ancestors killed your messiah over 2000 years ago. Sorry, that's a rather biased example, but it was the first one that came to mind. The holocaust was the worst genocide of all time, (as far as we know) and I don't think there's much of a reason to kill anyone (there are certain circumstances, but I'm not going to really delve into them in a school "eportfolio").
